Easy to Challenging

Your ice safari, like all of our safaris, is perfect for the whole family. Generally, there is very little walking required. Since we are landing right on the glacier we can simply step outside the aircraft onto the glacier and then…you have arrived! If you have a more energy there is unlimited opportunity to explore the area. We provide a safe path to walk when there is a snow blanket and cleats when we are on the blue ice.

Total trip length is 2 to 3 hours or less. Helicopter time total about 50mins round trip and about an hour on the glacier. Hiking over the blue ice and snow depending on the time of year and location. If weather prevents a landing on the glacier we have the option to land at the bottom on a solid surface and then walk onto the glacier ice.

The easy proximity to Homer makes this safaris a unique way to see Alaska.

The snow pack determines when the blue ice starts to emerge. Early in the season most of the accessible area of the glacier are covered with a thick blanket of snow. As the summer progresses the winter snows melt supplying the glacial rivers with plenty of fresh and nutrient rich minerals running for the sea. All over Alaska there are water falls all summer because of this ever present transition. The melting snow slowly begins to expose the that infamous icy blue contrast that just makes photos spectacular.

The flight over and back there is a chance to see wildlife such as goats on the mountain side magically and effortlessly balancing on the smallest rocky out cropping. Perhaps even a moose trying their hardest to blend into the brushy background in the valleys. Either way glaciers are not the only stars of the show.

Once on the glacier  we have plenty of opportunity to hike and explore the area.
