Our Bear Safaris offer options to many different areas of brown bear viewing. A better chance to avoid big crowds. If you join us for (3) three or more separate experiences in the same summer we will offer you a 10% discount on each successive separate experience.

Helicopter brown bear safaris:

Helicopters are hard to beat with unlimited visibility from any seat and mind altering landing options that airplanes just can’t match.

Airplane brown bear safaris

Dehavilland Beavers have been the workhorse of Alaska for many years. Beaver on floats for lakes and rivers, the other aircraft will be on wheels for a multitude of beach options on balloon tires. If you have never heard the sound of a radial engine…..these aircraft are safe, reliable, amazing to listen to and travel in. We have enough space for a window seat for every passenger.

Note: Brooks camp is the only exception and at least one of our aircraft are going there during July and September. This isn’t the only place we go in July but it is a unique destination.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Activity Level

Easy to Moderate

Plan to walk at least 100 yards, slowly, with lots of breaks. Terrain can be over anything from hard packed trails to mud, tall grass, water, and marshy terrain. Mostly level footing.

With Disabilities

The biggest question we have pertains to the “walk”. It mostly depends on the day. The helicopter offers more flexibility since if offers more space inside the machine for seating and also is lower to the ground for easier access. Plus the doors are bigger allowing for assistance to getting in and out.

Duration

Total length of trip is about 4 to 8 hours from start to finish. Length of time on the ground can be anywhere from 1-5 hours depending on time of year, weather, and location of the safari and which safari option you choose. Bears are on their own schedule and we work hard to be sure we get some incredible photos before we leave and head back to civilization.

Your Guides

Our guides have a lot of knowledge that they will share with you for a safe and awesome experience with the bears. By the end of our time together you will be wanting more. The return trip takes about the same amount of flight time and before you know it we are hovering in for a landing and memory card full of photos.

Trip Outline

Let us walk you through the 6 easiest steps of the events leading up to departure, during the trip, and post safari.

FIRST: Determine your mode of transportation. Book through our web site, via phone or call us a day or two before you want to go.

SECOND: Meeting at the office and linking up with the others on the safari. Our staff will fit you with a pair of company supplied hip boots specifically designed for every foot in the world. Don’t worry there isn’t a single pair that will fit your feet perfectly. Luckily, we walk slow and easy but the hip boots gives us the best opportunity to achieve that special experience.

THIRD: Grab your backpack that doesn’t weigh more then 15 pounds that has your camera gear and almost anything else you need (within reason) for the day. We provide a rain jacket, hip boots, bug spray, snacks, a few memory flash cards for purchase, water, and water proof gloves so you don’t have to think about the small stuff.

FOURTH: Your guide for the day will give you a quick briefing on what to expect for the day such as safety around bears and wilderness, weather, conduct around bears, and landing site information.

FIFTH: Load into the aircraft and fly away to the highest concentration of brown bear in the world.

SIXTH: After a incredible day in the wilds of Alaska its back into the aircraft and return to Homer.
